General Guidelines for Writing a Proper Paragraph: o Paragraph is neat and readable o The beginning of the paragraph is indented, with the continuation of the paragraph pushed all the way over to the left margin o Grade level words are spelled correctly o Correct punctuation and capitalization o Complete sentences Scene Box o The scene box displays the scene you are describing o Neat (it doesn’t look like you rushed through it; it’s evident you took your time) /3 Introduction o The beginning sentence states the title and author of the book o State your favorite scene in the book (do not include details) o State the main character(s) in this scene (The main characters in the scene I’m about to describe are….) o Identify 2 adjectives about the character(s) in this particular scene o 2 supporting details as to why you chose these words /3 This scene is about…. o Come up with a title that describes this scene o Supporting sentences as to why you chose this title/ briefly describe what the scene is about (not every detail is included, and the sentences in the “summary” are in the same sequence as the details from the longer passage) o Describe what the character is trying to accomplish /3 I chose this scene because… o 2 reasons as to why you chose this scene o 2 supporting sentences as to why you chose these particular reasons /3 This scene is important in the book because… o Why this scene is important o How does this scene support what the character is trying to accomplish, or the “big picture” in the story. o Supporting sentence(s) as to why this scene supports what the character is trying to accomplish or the “big picture” in the story. /3 The emotions I was feeling during this scene … o 2 emotions o 2 supporting sentences as to why you chose these particular emotions. /3 Grading 4 Exceeds standards- all elements listed are met and work has gone above and beyond. 3 Meets standards- all elements listed above are present. 2 Below standard- missing two or more elements.
