Helpful Homework Hints
•    Used colored folders for each subject.  This helps organization.

•    Plan out homework time.  Figure out how long each assignment will take then write a schedule for work and break times.

•    Some children do well if they work on the easier assignments first.  For other children,  tackling the harder assignments while they are still fresh may work better.

•    Have a homework place – it should be comfortable, well-lit, quiet and with minimal distractions.  Have supplies available such as pencils, scissors, glue, etc.

•      Teach your child how to break big jobs into little pieces.  A social studies project, for example may include a map, the cover page, research, a bibliography, first page, etc.,  Help your child think of each part and write a schedule of when he will have them done.

•    Make sure your child has a homework calendar.

•    Don’t provide the answer.  Be available to answer questions.  Work through a sample problem together, but don’t do the work!

•    Make use of library homework help centers, homework helplines, etc.

•    Review graded assignments to see where your child needs assistance.

•    Try a study group.

•    Have a car homework container.

•    Have a set homework free day and have some fun.
