Congratulations to Ms. Carty!
Celeste Carty was honored on February 7 at the Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Association (MESPA) annual conference as the (MESPA)/Science Museum of Minnesota 2006 Science and Mathematics Elementary Principal of the Year. Ms. Carty was selected on the basis of the work she has done in implementing and maintaining a strong science focus at Crossroads-Science. She developed a school-wide culture of respect for learning with a particular emphasis on inquiry-based teaching strategies. Drawing on resources from the Exploratorium's Institute for Inquiry, the Science Museum of Minnesota, and the Science Center of Eastern Connecticut, she put in place a framework to support inquiry-based science in the classroom. This is particularly important as we hear a national call for strong science and math programs in the schools. Our students leave us with an interest in science, seeing themselves as scientists, and a strong foundation in scientific attitudes and understanding. Key components of the Crossroads program include a nationally unique Inquiry Zone, a well-equipped science lab, substantial resources for use in the classroom, and science being taught by well trained classroom teachers.

Congratulations to Ms. Celeste Carty
