 | | The little red wagon - a symbol of childhood. It should be filled with a child's hopes and dreams, never weighted down with their burdens. Millions of American children need our help to pull that wagon along. Let's all pull together." -Colin Powell, Founding Chairman of America's Promise |
The Minnesota Alliance With Youth (MAWY), works with schools, students, and communities across the state to fulfill the Five Promises for every young person in Minnesota. Those five promises are:
- Caring Adults
- Safe Places
- Healthy Start
- Marketable Skills
- Opportunities to Serve
Crossroads' Students of Promise program, in cooperation with MAWY, also works to fulfill these promises, and improve the academic success of targeted students, increase their commitment and ability to become leaders, excel in academics, and get involved in the community. Goals of our Students of Promise program for this year are to:
• connect students with community volunteer tutor/mentors • help students plan and complete service learning projects to better our community • connect students and families with community resources • offer a series of fun evening and weekend activities for students and their families
All the fourth through sixth grade teachers at Crossroads have recognized which students are on an Academic Improvement Plan (AIP), and are therefore eligible to be a part of this program.
