Past Events
During the February 2008 Intersession, twelve 4th - 6th
graders were invited by Ms. Jessica and Ms. Sonia to become part of the
Mini-Minnesota team. They learned about the characteristics of
different types of trees such as the growth rates, soil preference,
life cycles. Then they created a plan of action for the land including
a visual map of how they want the area to look. They also learned about
service learning, goal setting, assessing community needs, using
different resources to further understand the issues, and how to
connect needs to action. The students explored their individual gifts and
talents they each possess and examined how these gifts can be an
essential part of making change.
Please check out "Mini-Minnesota" under Crossroads School News, Service Learning for more information on how the project went.

In mid December 2007, some of our Students of Promise met at the Episcopal Church Home of Saint Paul and helped the residents make winter holiday gifts. We made new friends over cookies and hot apple cider and listened to Ms. Jeane, our Korean intern, play the piano. The Discovery Club also helped out by making hundreds of beautiful gifts for the residents' annual Christmas party. It was fun to see what a positive impact these activities had on both the residents and our students!

During the Fall 2007 Intersession, the North End Seniors Group held their Fall Festival in the Crossroads cafeteria. Twelve of our Students of Promise were asked to help serve, clean up, and entertain the guests. Many other Students of Promise offered their lunch and recess times to make decorations for the cafeteria. We made placemats as well as beautiful table centerpieces, which the seniors gratefully took home. It was a great day and we had a lot of fun. The seniors enjoyed our students so much that they asked us to make the decorations for their Winter Festival as well!
