8:55–9:30 Reading Activities: Students may 1) read an AR book,
2) read a book from a list, 3) play games for learning sight words, 4)
complete phonemic awareness activities. (At risk students are given
assistance during this time. Other students may work in pairs.)
9:30–10:00 Math skills – whole group instruction – through a
“Math Warm-up” time. New skills introduced and other skills are
practiced during this time. Students use accountable talk when giving
their answers.
10:00–10:45 Writer’s Workshop or Cultural Studies projects.
Students may choose work in another core area (Reading, Writing, Math)
as soon as required work is completed.
10:45–11:10 Reading or Math skills taught in small groups.
11:10–11:15 Transition to Specialist
12:05–12:15 Bathroom Break
12:15–12:45 Lunch
12:45–12:55 Transition time for all-day and arrival of half-day students.
12:55–1:00 Transition to classroom
1:00–1:20 Group Meeting: Calendar, greetings, new presentations in various Curriculum areas.
1:20–3:00 Small group or individual instruction for sound
awareness, encoding and decoding practice, writing captions, reading,
number sense, shapes and patterning work, math operations, cultural
studies projects, etc.
3:00–3:10 Snack
3:10–3:25 Read Aloud: vocabulary development, story structures, genre studies, etc.
3:25–3:35 Preparation for buses
